I first became fascinated with SaltAir Amusement Park, when I drove by the abandoned hulk of it on a business trip a few years ago.
Saltair opened in 1893.
It had a roller coaster, a merry-go-round, a ferris wheel, and a midway. There were dances on the large dancefloor, and events such as rodeos, bicycle races and vaudeville shows. There were many other attractions, too.
Swimming in the Great Salt Lake was always a popular pastime.
The park operated until 1957, when the owners went bankrupt
The remnants of it are still sitting on a pier out in the Great Salt Lake, just outside of Salt Lake City.
