There is a lot of trail to hike. We'd like to see all of it. We'd like to find any ruins that are left. And document it all with photos.
Located the area of "Wildwood Park". We have heard there are a couple of ruins left. We found the right-of-way of the railroad. But, unfortunately, found no ruins what-so-ever.
We may return someday soon to continue our search.
Located the "South Turn". Where the railroad came up and turned onto what is now Skyline Drive. It's at the first scenic overlook south of the summit.
The railroad climbed from Haig Rd. and Angora Rd., (up what is now a closed paved road to the summit), then veered off into the woods, then, when it reached what is now Skyline Drive at the overlook, it made a virtual U-turn onto Skyline Drive, then climbed to the summit.
We hiked from the "South Turn" (the first overlook south of the summit) halfway down to Haag Rd. and Angora Rd. and found no ruins.
Found ruins of the South Turn picnic area on top of a hill on the inside of the South Turn. Metal brackets - probably the foundation of a pavilion or something.
Found where the uphill right-of-way connected with what is now Haag Rd. The stone foundation of the right-of-way is still visible. We will hike that someday.
Located the remnants of Kuechler's Roost.
The Roost was a popular winery on Mt. Penn in the late 1800's and early 1900's. It was also a stop on the Gravity Railroad run.
