Lincoln Highway

The Lincoln Highway was the first cross-country highway in the US. It stretched from New York City to San Francisco.

It was conceived in 1912 by Carl Fisher, who owned the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

On the way across the country, the highway went through big cities, small towns and lots of countryside. Two of the cities it went through in the East were Trenton, NJ, and Philadelphia, Pa. I live just off the Lincoln Highway near Phila.

Recently Brian Butko stopped by our house just outside of Philadelphia. Brian literally "wrote the book" on the highway by authoring "Pennsylvania Traveler's Guide: The Lincoln Highway".

Brian, his nephew Rick, and myself explored an old abandoned half-mile long section of the highway right near my house.
